I want to acknowledge that there is some controversy spreading around the adoption community about older child adoption, putting some scrutiny on the lists and blogs that are advocating for "aging out" children. Our daughter was featured on a couple of these advocacy blogs this time last year. We saw her there, but not until after we had been called to her on our agency's individual list - and we had not been planning an adoption but had not severed communication with our agency. I was pleased to comment on these advocacy blogs that she, who was called Bria in that context, did have a home eagerly waiting for her.
These stories are heartbreaking all around, and especially as I "e-know" some of the people involved, these people have been added to my prayer list. So if you are in the waiting-to-adopt community, read these stories (here and here) and be informed. Also know - this is not Wynn's story! And I cannot discourage older child adoption.
Thank you for sharing this. I too e-know the writer of one of the stories and I must admit, it made me question my girls past. I believe with all my heart that their stories are not like the ones we learned about. My heart breaks for this family as I feel like they were taken advantage of.
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading your latest post and oh my! What a wonderful blessing Wynn is to you and your family. I rejoice that she is calling you Mom! What a precious journey you have had with this beautiful girl!
