History

Yesterday at work, Wynn pulled up my Facebook page and started asking about asian faces that she saw.  The first was our adorable friend Olivia whom we traveled with when we adopted Ari.  She was dressed as a cheerleader, just as Ari was.  Wynn wanted to know her original name.  I could remember both parts of the given name, but I did not know the surname, so we looked it up on my friend's blog.  The second picture was of a friend's daughters, Paige and Sidney.  I told her, "Their mom is American, and their dad is from Kunming!" She wanted to know their original names too, so I explained that they are not adopted and showed pictures of their mom and dad.  She then told me she knew a girl who could not speak.  I said, "In China?" and she looked at me like I was stupid and typed.  "Yes.  You are friends with her mother.  You introduced us."  Oh! Amei, a little girl we met at the hotel in Guangzhou, whom Wynn admitted that she had known in the foster village but would not speak to at the time.  I had recently received an e-mail from this family, so I had their blog address, and we went there.  Then, I showed her the blog for Hui Hui, a little boy whom Wynn loves from the foster village.  She was very excited.  After that, I pulled up the Yunnanadopt yahoo group albums and let her browse those, which kept her busy for quite a while.  She did point out a couple of children that she knew.

Last night, I went looking for a photostream that I had seen before from a family's trip to Kunming.  The woman who took these photos lives in our home state and was a Small World family with a previous adoption, just as we were.  I showed it to Wynn today, and she looked at first with minimal interest.  Then, all of a sudden, she squealed and grabbed the iPhone to type, "My home!"  After that, she pored over every face in every picture.  She found pictures of her foster mom, her foster brother, her grandfather.  She also pointed out to me the "grandmother" of the little girl who she would like me to find an adoptive home for and the foster parents of a little friend we traveled with.

This is the home Wynn lived in.

This is where she went to school.
This is her foster brother when he was little.
These lady above and below is Wynn's foster mom.

This is her grandfather.
(I do not know if that's an honorary title or foster mom's father.  It doesn't matter.  It's someone she loves.  She was excited to see the picture.)

  2. I think I found your blog on Rumor Queen, and I have been checking it daily since. I want to thank you for sharing your journey. We have two daughters adopted from China, and we have talked about adopting an older child. You are a fabulous writer, and sharing your story has helped me to understand what this could be like. So, thank you. (and please don't stop writing!)

Wynn is a brave, brave girl!
