Wynn had her first formal English tutoring session. The first thing she did was take her teacher back to my desk to show pictures of her family. That made me feel good. :) At this point, she is tickled to have homework. Of course, her loser mom left it on her desk at work. Luckily, my friend Aubree was able to scan it as a pdf and e-mail it to me.
We also went to the mall and got her ears pierced. On Halloween, we had been shopping, and she had looked at a pendant-earring set. I asked if she would want her ears pierced, and she shook her head firmly. Later that day, she came with the translator, "Does it hurt very much?" Even after the time lapse, I knew what she was getting at, and I told her that yes, it hurts, similar to a vaccination, and then feels very warm, but the pain is brief. She said, "I think I would like it." Today, she typed, "When will I have opportunity for ears pierced?" So we went down to the mall and got new earrings. (She does not know how rare that is - me, at the mall.)
Oh, I forgot to post about Halloween. We could not find a costume that suited her, neither at the store, nor in the storage bin at Mandy's house, where there is quite a collection. She asked, "Why does Halloween require silly garments?" That has become one of my favorite quotes. At the first house, she did not want to try trick-or-treating and shoved her pumpkin bucket at her dad. He said, "No, you have to do it." As we walked away from that first house, she looked at the other kids' candy and in disbelief at her own empty bucket . . . and by the second house, she was willing to go to the door with her siblings. As far as I know, no one commented on the fact that she had no costume, and I'm just glad she had the experience.
Ha--my newbie also refused to wear "silly clothes" for Halloween! He does not like American candy (too sweet), but enjoyed collecting it and then trading it in for a dollar at our dentist's buy-back program.
