We are filling out immigration forms in anticipation of our LOA (letter of acceptance), and the instructions for these forms say to enter her English name. So we needed to talk about one. :)
We are going to call 文,Wynn Eliya Norton. I have been asked why we are changing the spelling of her first name. I maintain that it is correctly spelled 文, so no matter how we spell it, it is changed.
Ari's name and the name Wynn are related. Ariana has meanings of
silver and
holy. Wynn has meanings of
white and
blessed. Eliya means "God is my Lord." A variant, Elia, means "God has answered." (But I think more people would pronounce
"Eliya" correctly without explanation than some of the other possible spellings.)
As for how we address her on a day-to-day basis - we will wait and see what she likes. Likely, she will be 文 or 文文 for as long as she desires. Otherwise, Eliya or Elli.
Initially, I planned to use Wynn as a middle name, but this way, her initials are WEN.
Very cool! Congratulations on your newest family member!
